Nothing but the Blood
By Tom Shanklin Recently I was reading one of those self-help books. . .the kind that tell you how to be a success in ten easy lessons. I like books on success, and this one was enjoyable and even full of Bible principles. But I was about two-thirds through the book when I realized that there was not a word in it about the blood of Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death at Calvary. Written for a secular audience, this book embraced many good positive Bible truths, but the direction that the author took could … Continue reading
How I Quit Smoking
By Kim Ellison Sin contaminates the flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Sin separates us from a Holy God. God does not love us any less when we sin, but He is holy, and where sin is, He will not abide. Many of us have had a particular sin or habit that has been difficult to get rid of. Just when we think we have the victory, it pops its ugly head back up. I too have experienced areas where I felt powerless and defeated by sin but we must remember that through … Continue reading
The Gospel of Healing
By Tom Shanklin In the Gospel of John, chapter 10, verse 10, Jesus says, “I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” He doesn’t just say that he came to give us life, but He makes a special point to say “…and that they might have it more abundantly.” Jesus makes it very clear that he has come to give us not just life, but abundant life. He didn’t come to give us misery on earth, while we wait for the train to glory. No, the Gospel … Continue reading
Getting in Synch with God
By Tom Shanklin Many of our problems in life, whether they be physical, mental or social, are caused by being out of synch with God. Today, perhaps you have a sickness in your body or troubles in your mind, or are out of sorts in your spiritual life. I want you to know that God’s Word has something to say about your condition. In fact, the Bible tells us that His Word will bring healing to us. “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” (Psalms 107:20, KJV). So, today, … Continue reading
The Resurrection Provides a Shocking Change
By Tom Shanklin And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; (Ephesians 2:1, KJV). I like the use of the Old English word, “quickened,” in the King James Version of the Bible. Even though it is an antiquated word, it carries a power, potency, and spirit that we sometimes miss. The New King James version reads: “And you He made alive. . .” “Quickened” means to make alive, but to me it carries with it the idea of a sudden jolt, a shocking change. The word is also used in another … Continue reading
Righteousness: You Can’t Live Without It!
By Tom Shanklin Noone can get to heaven without it. If you have it, God will answer your prayers. What is it and how do you get it? It is “righteousness” and it must be received by faith as a gift from God. The scripture tells us: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. (Romans 14:17, KJV). The Apostle Paul tells us: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? (1 Corinthians 6:9, KJV). We must have … Continue reading
He is Savior, but is He Lord?
By Pastor Tom Shanklin While I was ministering at a church in Manitoba, Canada on a Sunday evening, I was preaching on the subject, “The Remedy for Sin and Sickness,” expounding the wonderful truths of God’s salvation and healing through His Son, Jesus Christ. What a beautiful time the congregation and I had in the scriptures. I shared about the tree being cast into the bitter waters at Marah, where the Lord told his people, “I am the Lord that healeth thee.” The tree, I said, represents, the cross of Calvary, which when it is … Continue reading
Almost Only Counts in Horseshoes
By Pastor Tom Shanklin Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. (Acts 26:28, KJV). Almost only counts in horseshoes. In the Christian life, “almost” amounts to two-thirds of nothing. Jesus said, “He that is not with me is against me. . .” With Christ, it’s all or nothing. Either you’re converted or unconverted, saved or unsaved, born again or not born again. King Agrippa had heard Paul’s tremendous testimony. He had heard how Jesus had appeared to him and called him to surrender his life and called him to … Continue reading
