Preaching the Evangelistic Message
The following is a chapter from Tom Shanklin’s book, “You Can Touch the World.” This book has been enthusiastically received by ministers and believers around the world. You can learn more about You Can Touch the World here. By Tom Shanklin “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18, KJV. In spite of what we have said about sharing one-on-one and lifestyle evangelism, the public proclamation of the Gospel is still a much needed part of … Continue reading
Ray and Wilma Phipps: Doing What Jesus Did in India!
By Tom Shanklin For Ray and Wilma Phipps, life has been an amazing adventure and demonstration of God’s supernatural intervention and power. It began in 1946, when Ray was 11 years old. He had a vision while at a prayer meeting in a country church near Venus, Nebraska, where his father was pastor. As Ray knelt to pray with the others, he was transported out of his body and into the atmosphere above the earth. He saw the earth as a huge globe below him that seemed to be real and alive. The Lord’s presence … Continue reading
Fishers of Men Evangelism Seminar at Businessmen’s Fellowship in Cannon Falls
By Tom Shanklin On Sept. 7-8 I was privileged to share a Fishers of Men Evangelism Seminar at a Men’s Advance for the Businessmen’s Fellowship which was held at the Three Crosses Retreat Center near Cannon Falls. I was blessed to see men coming out with a desire to learn more about how God could use them as Fishers of Men. I spoke on: Fishing with the Master (following Jesus) The Fishing Lifestyle (lifestyle evangelism) The Well Equipped Fisherman (the baptism of the Holy Spirit) Power Fishing (doing the works of Jesus) We were … Continue reading

The Local Church is Still God’s Method to Reach the World
By Tom Shanklin I was a local church pastor for 22 years, and as you would expect during that time I was passionate about God’s plan for the local church. But now that I have been in a traveling ministry focusing on evangelism for the past seven years, I see more than ever that God’s vehicle for reaching the world is the local church. His plan is to unite believers in a local church and reveal His truth to them and then to use them to reach their area and the nations with the Gospel … Continue reading
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
By Tom Shanklin “Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both … Continue reading
Open Doors to Preach the Gospel Right Where You Live
By Tom Shanklin If you have a desire to preach the Gospel, don’t sit around waiting for someone to invite you to come preach in a big church or a stadium. Get busy proclaiming God’s Word right where you are. There are places like nursing homes, assisted living facilities, jails, prisons, detention centers and numerous other places that would gladly open the doors to your ministry if you treat the people right and handle yourself with wisdom. Yesterday, I ministered at the Oaklawn Health Care Center here in Mankato. I am a part of a … Continue reading
The Evangelist and the Local Church
By Tom Shanklin Some have thought that the evangelist’s ministry, since he is given to the cause of reaching the lost, should not have any connection with local churches, but that he should spend all his time and energy in the highways and byways reaching the lost. However, according to Ephesians 4, the evangelist is one of five gifts given for bringing the Body of Christ to maturity. To be effective, every ministry gift must have a connection to the visible Church of Jesus Christ. The evangelist must work together with local churches to bring … Continue reading
We Still Need the Ministry of the Evangelist
By Tom Shanklin I received the following statement in a newsletter from LeRoy Jones, a Methodist evangelist from Chatham, Virginia. I met LeRoy and his wife Peg at the Billy Graham School of Evangelism several years ago. LeRoy writes: “God is still blessing the little churches. Most of the churches where Peg and I are called to minister are small churches. Sometimes it is a single evangelistic service, sometimes it is a revival, at other times we are asked to do a missions program. Still at other times we are asked to do special occasion … Continue reading
